A Winter Morning

A winter morning is misty, frosty, and chilly. In rural Bangladesh, the entire landscape is often blanketed with dense fog, so much so that objects even a short distance away cannot be seen clearly.

The morning sun gradually peeks through the veil of fog like a ball of molten gold. Dewdrops glistening on blades of grass and tender leaves look like glittering pearls when sunlight falls on them.

Life begins briskly:

• Farmers head to the paddy fields with their plows and cattle.
• Hawkers sell fresh date palm sap and traditional sweets.
• Families gather in open courtyards to relish hot bhapa pitha and chitai pitha.
